Dental Implants
What are Dental
Implants?
Dental Implants are
basically "replacement teeth " that look, feel and function just
like natural teeth.
When you lose a natural
tooth, from injury or decay, you are left with a gap. Dental
implants can be your doorway to renewed self confidence and
comfort.
This concept for oral
rehabilitation was developed more than 35 years ago by a Swedish
scientist and Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark. As this
method can restore your chewing function and create a feeling of
having recovered a lost natural tooth("getting your own teeth
back") , it is no surprise that millions of patients worldwide are
seeking this treatment over conventional methods (partial dentures
and bridges).
Treatment
Steps:
The first step is to
replace the missing tooth root by placing a titanium implant. This
provides a solid foundation. The implant remains covered underneath
the gum for approx. 3 to 6 months. New techniques with NobelActive
implants now allow us to place and load implants immediately in
certain situations. This is an exciting and beautiful way to
restore many difficult situations.
The second step involves
building onto the implant with attachments and your new crown of
bridge. This step can be completed without any anesthetic required
and is very much appreciated by patients.
